Vehicle combat was the next thing that came up in our group we looked up the rules as a group, and honestly we did it incorrectly that session. Then just learn piece by piece as you go along. It's not too hard, and you can write down the formulas as quick reference guides.

The first thing is just get down the basic flow of normal melee and ranged combat. I'm a very new GM, I've only GMd four sessions so far. Well if I can make a suggestion, just start and learn as you go.

I like having both a pdf and Paper copy to flip through. Im hindsight the core rule book is better off spiralbound and i would recommend you do that too. We went through 3 rounds of returns until i gave up and went to fedex-kinkos and had them cut the binding and spiral bind it. I got my books off amazon and they came with torn binding. The binding is weak because the handbook is very thick. We rather not house rule things due to nebulousness off the bat.Ģnd. While not a big deal these things matter when learning a new and complex system like shadowrun with a new group. But its not explicit in the core rulebook. It's heavily implied and infered that if you max out a damage tract you get knocked out. And even then it's sometimes not explicit and you have to infer. The first is that many times data is hard to find as its often split up over weird places. I'm still really new to this, though, still in the chargen stage.ĭefinitely like the setting, though. (I've read a few long discussions about it on here, too). I'm not sure what is canon, but there isn't much indication of what "normal" ability scores are. Rule-wise, the main complaint I've run into is the description of abilities. The organization of the book isn't the greatest, but between Chummer's linking, the index, and the ability to search the document, everything's worked out fairly well so far. Works really well) One very helpful feature for it is that you can point Chummer at your pdf, calibrate it so it knows where your pages are (takes about 30 seconds to do), and thereafter you can click on qualities, skills, spells, etc and it will open your digital copy directly to the relevant page. I noticed that Reddit has a sidebar link to a program by the name of Chummer, which is a character generator. I'm in the same boat, but I decided to go digital instead of physical. But don't let that stop you from getting into Shadowrun: the struggles are worth it based on everything great about Shadowrun.

5e isn't impossible to use, it's just harder than it should be for a "professionally" produced rule system. The issue is with the poorly written and organized rules, some of which are vague or seemingly contradictory. The setting of the Sixth World and the majority of the lore that goes with it is great. Look I love Shadowrun, and I think almost everyone on this subreddit agrees. The specific subject isn't anywhere close to the listed page, but that is a pretty rare occurrence. Additionally I have run in to a few subjects, I can't remember a specific example off the top of my head, listed in the master index that a completely wrong. Generally that subject will be within three or four pages forward or backward, but it still makes things more difficult than they need to be. Sometimes it will list incorrect page numbers for a subject. The master index is a big help, however it's not perfect. "Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon." Living Community (Where you can play online) Subreddits For that please check out /r/ShadowrunReturns for help. Sadly our nova hot community isn't the best place to discuss the mechanics discussion or troubleshooting the video games. Mostly the pen and paper role playing game, but also the deck building card game, video games, and literature of Shadowrun. Discussion is primarily aimed at exploring narratives found in the Sixth World. Here at /r/Shadowrun we talk shop about all things in the shadows.
